What size squeegee for window cleaning?

When you think of window cleaning, there is one tool that is synonymous with a professional window cleaner- the squeegee. This humble but mighty invention has been at the forefront of window cleaning for over 100 years, producing a better quality, streak free finish to the process.

There is a plethora of squeegees now on the market so choosing the right size will depend upon the job in hand.

The tool is made up of two parts- the channel and the handle. Channels hold the squeegee rubber and come in a variety of lengths to support the job that is being worked and professional window cleaners will have multiple channels to switch between.  The handle holds the channel and will be the part that the cleaner will hold onto.

Having a wide selection of channels and handles is key to successfully completing various jobs but the main principle to consider is to remove the maximum amount of water with the minimum number of strokes. Therefore, you must factor in the width and length of the window for the size of the squeegee with channel sizes ranging from around 4 inches wide to in excess of 30 inches wide.

Small windowpanes will benefit from a smaller channel or perhaps a custom based size which is often available. On large plates of glass found on businesses such as car dealerships or shop fronts, a larger channel will be needed for your squeegee to work with the increased surface area.

Once you get used to the different size options of squeegee and working with them, it will increase the productivity and effectiveness of the window cleaning jobs.
